Consumption of energy in ASEAN countries is projected to reach 1,018 MTOE by 2030, in line with projected GDP growth of 5.2% p.a. Energy consumption for the region is forecast at a rate of 4.4% - from 375 MTOE to 1,018, based on a business-as-usual (BAU) scenario.

Power consumption in the transport sector will grow the fastest during this period with annual growth projected at 5.6% driven by increasing per capita income. Consumption in the industrial sector will grow at a slightly lower rate of 5.2%, while other sectors, which include residential, commercial and agricultural, will have an average annual growth of 2.6%.

RE Business Opportunities in ASEAN Region

In line with growing renewable energy opportunities in ASEAN countries, on the 9th November 2012, UBM Asia (Thailand) conducted a seminar on “Business Opportunities in Renewable Energy in ASEAN Region”. The Seminar was part of the 6th Renewable Energy India 2012 Expo which was held in New Delhi.  The event which was sponsored by Renewable Energy India 2012 and Renewable Energy Asia 2013, was presented by Prof. Dr. Christoph Menke.  Prof. Menke covered the diverse market potential of ASEAN countries in promoting renewable energy business and the possibilities of collaboration with Indian counterparts.  Dr Menke said that throughout the ASEAN region, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand are emerging as highly favorable for business and trade in renewable energy.
